Why ordinary potting soil struggles in Singapore

Most indoor plants here die from too much water, not too little. Our humidity means pots dry out slowly, and dense supermarket soil stays wet for days. Roots sitting in wet, airless soil rot, and the first sign you see is usually yellowing leaves or a plant that wilts even though the soil is damp.

Every Sprout Lab mix is built around drainage first. Pumice and perlite keep the mix open, pine bark stops it collapsing as it ages, and biochar holds nutrients so they don't wash straight out with every watering.

Add-ins: what each one fixes

Add-inFixesUse it when
PerlitePoor drainage, compacted soilYour existing soil stays wet too long; mix in to lighten it
PumiceCompaction over timeYou want drainage that doesn't float to the top or break down
LECAOverwatering, soil pestsYou're moving a plant to semi-hydro or want a soil-free setup
Coco coirMix drying out too fastA plant needs more moisture held around its roots
Orchiata barkMixes that are too fine for big rootsPotting orchids, or adding chunk to a mature aroid's mix

5L or 25L?

A 5L bag is enough for one or two medium pots. Take 25L if you're repotting several plants at once, potting up a large plant, or setting up a balcony vegetable garden.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Aroid Mix for succulents?

Yes. The Fine version is what we recommend for succulents and cacti. It drains as fast as a cactus mix but holds a little more moisture between waterings, which suits indoor succulents in Singapore.

Do the mixes contain fertiliser?

No added fertiliser. Aroid Mix has no soil at all, so start feeding with a liquid fertiliser such as Plant GROW once roots have settled. Vege Mix contains organic soil and the most biochar, which holds nutrients and releases them slowly, but fruiting plants still need regular feeding.

How often should I repot?

Most houseplants need fresh mix every 12–18 months, or sooner if water starts pooling on the surface or roots grow out of the drainage holes.
